Atia of the Julii, Director of SHIELD.
Black Widow’s backstory ambiguous badass mother figure/boss/lover/nemesis. Atia of the Julii as Russian. Is. Too. Perfect. (And the schwarma scene is them watching the Karenina trailer and sharing disappointed rigid-feels and Natasha raising an eyebrow to all of three-quarter mast when Atia calls it a Moulin Rouge rip-off.)

I don’t give a fuck what the priests say. I’ll not let a vicious little trollop like you walk ahead of me. I go first. I know who you are. I can see you. You’re swearing now that, someday, you’ll destroy me. Remember that far better women than you have sworn to do the same. Go look for them now.

From the pilot commentary: “And a lot of people on the page thought of Atia as, er, the villainness, but it’s very clear when you see the show and see her performance she’s the real heroine of the piece, I mean, if not the hero of the piece. I mean, that’s how I always thought of her.” — Bruno Heller.
